I’m all over the board this morning!
Aside from politics, popular culture changes on whim…day to day…no warning. You get the picture.
I noticed a couple of articles in the current issue of Entertainment Weekly (August 9, 2013) that brought today’s topic to mind.
‘The first being “Second guessing 3-D”. This byline follows:
“The format’s ticket shares are hitting record lows. Are movie goers saying good riddance to the glasses?”
I suspected from the outset that 3-D had a limited shelf life (‘Avatar’ aside!). The format is simply limited in its appeal and cumbersome to experience. Not to mention the disorientation, dizziness, and headaches. Don’t we get enough of that OUTSIDE of the movie theater? Add to that the ridiculous expense of a ticket to a 3-D feature and you have a recipe for disaster, as far as the movie studios are concerned.
The feature piece in this issue is about ‘New Hollywood’. The initial focus on Mindy Kaling of “The Mindy Project.” As far as I’m concerned, THE BEST SHOW ON TELEVISION! She’s taken the sitcom and changed if from tired and cliched to sharp and whip smart! From the first episode, I KNEW this was going to be a hit!…
“…she is one of the most promising and original voices in comedy right now….”
The article describes her show as “whip-smart, woman-truth-speaking, observation-laden”….and Kaling as “a multi-talented, multitasker who’s rewriting the industry rulebook one quip at a time!”
Thank goodness someone is! Originality is NOT Hollywood’s strong suit. That could apply to pop music today, as well. But, that’s a whole other subject!
Hopefully, the new direction fostered by Kaling and others can turn this around….
Who didn’t see THAT coming?….
Now back to the ugly reality of things….
THESE headlines speak for themselves!

It’s an upside down world, folks! We’re in an alternate universe…at least when it comes to politics, government, etc. And it’s only getting worse! You can do what you can do and hope for the best. The country bought that “hope and change” line and we are now ALL paying the price!
