Your Weekend Reads..Special Holiday Edition!

With the arrival of Memorial Day comes the beginning of Summer. Thankfully the beaches of the Gulf of Mexico are in better shape than they were a year ago! Too bad the same can’t be said for the situation in Washington.

As you head to the beaches and  the bar-b-ques, don’t forget the sunscreen! I’m sure you will be relieved to know the Senate is looking out for YOU! That’s right! No time for something as trivial as a budget…a requirement they conveniently overlook…but they have time to worry about SPF levels and labeling on sunscreen products!

“As families prepare for Memorial Day festivities, and plan outings this summer, most will be outdoors without adequate sun protection, even if they use sunscreen,”  …. “This is because there are currently no rules that sunscreen makers must follow when making claims about the level of protection their products provide.” – Sen Jack Reed (D-RI)

Yessir! Senator Reed was afraid you don’t have enough common sense to come out of the sun and that Banana Boat or Coppertone you bought just ain’t doing the trick! Gosh! I’m so happy the Senator is focusing on the IMPORTANT STUFF!

And speaking of IMPORTANT STUFF!…..
Seems they’re having a hard time at the office of the First Lady. The Politico paints a sympathetic picture of the situation, because, you know…it’s tough and Mrs. Obama is under more scrutiny…and she’s the first post boomer generation first lady…and she expects a lot….

“The first lady is a lovely woman, but she’s tough as nails, and that can be hard for some people,” said a source familiar with the office. “She has really high expectations”…reports the piece.

Oh, boo hoo! I guess we’re supposed to sympathize…like the American people don’t have OTHER concerns!

And finally…..

Larry Sabato and the boys over at the Center for Politics and their Crystal Ball, are wondering where the real scandals are for  Obama. Apparently, according to this bunch, we’re way overdue for big f*** up by the President. Gee, I wonder what you’d call the last 2 and a half years?..hmmm..

Nevertheless, it makes an interesting read. They even go so far to admit the possibility that Mr. Obama has not been scrutinized by the press quite to the extent of previous chief executives. Really?! Ya’ think?!

Also, they offer another explanation in that competing news stories have just sucked up all the resources and diverted our attention. Not for all of us. They don’t go so far as to admit President Obama has put himself right in the midst of those stories…one way or another..i.e. the Gulf oil spill, the mosque in Manhattan, etc.

Of course, I’m sure if “scandal” arrives on the doorstep of the White House, you can rest assured the media will do their best to downplay and disregard the situation, no matter the seriousness of it.

So, enjoy the long weekend! You can be certain this crap and a bunch of new stuff will be waiting when you return!
