Growing up in the South, I can tell you ‘The Help’ offers an accurate, sometimes heart wrenching portrayal of the dawning of the Civil Rights era. It also serves up some fun which will have your side splitting from laughter. I had my reservations, as the trailers and commercials DO NOT do the movie justice. The silliness portrayed there is only a small portion of the substance of this adaptation of Kathryn Stockett’s novel.
Viola Davis and Octavia Spencer should each have a shot at Oscar! They each lend their respective rolls depth and humor rarely seen on screen. If the Academy has any sense, these two are more than worthy of recognition!
Go see it!..You won’t regret a minute of it!
