MARK CARNEY SAYS CANADA NEEDS TO LOOK BEYOND U.S. FOR GROWTH – Calgary Herald

Mark Carney says Canada needs to look beyond U.S. for growth

OTTAWA — Canada needs to look beyond its southern neighbour for markets because the United States economy is unlikely to ever fully recover, Bank of Canada governor Mark Carney said Sunday.

In an interview with CTV’s Question Period, Carney said that it is vital for Canada to look for new trading partners in the Asia-Pacific region and elsewhere to prevent the economy from being dragged down by the U.S.

“It’s going to take a number of years before they get back to the U.S. that we used to know — in fact, they are not, in our opinion, ultimately going to get back to the U.S. that we used to know,” he said.

Carney pointed to China as a market with great potential and as a place where Canada is currently under-represented, but cautioned it would take time to enhance trade between the two countries.

“It’s going to take multiple visits, multiple initiatives. Not, obviously, from the public sector alone, but clearly a focus from the private sector,” Carney said. “That is absolutely essential for developing our future and it’s a key element of our medium-term growth.”…..

A spot ON opinion piece…..

PRESIDENT OBAMA HAS GIVEN UP DOING HIS JOB – Reince Priebus

“The Oval Office must be a quiet place these days.

Trying desperately to save his job, Barack Obama has given up on actually doing his job. He’s courting wealthy donors for campaign cash. He’s crisscrossing the country rallying disaffected voters. And he’s running disingenuous ads in five battleground states.

He’s out busily trying to secure a second term, while Americans are still waiting for him to deliver on the promises of his first. Yet judging by the president’s schedule, we shouldn’t get our hopes up…..”

More insight from The Economic Collapse…..

IF THE U.S. GOVERNMENT KEEPS SPENDING MONEY LIKE THIS WE ARE DOOMED AND IF THE U.S. GOVERNMENT STOPS SPENDING MONEY LIKE THIS WE ARE DOOMED

If you increased your credit card spending by a couple thousand dollars per month would your lifestyle improve?  Of course it would.  By going into large amounts of debt, it is possible to live a lifestyle that you can’t really afford, at least for a while.  But if you keep racking up huge amounts of credit card debt every single month, eventually it gets to a point where it is extremely difficult to even keep up with the minimum monthly payments and the credit card companies will not lend you any more money.  Well, on a larger scale it is the same thing with government debt.  Right now, the U.S. government is spending more than a trillion dollars more than it takes in every year.  Even if the U.S. government spends all of that money on incredibly stupid stuff, it still gets into the pockets of ordinary Americans.  In turn, those ordinary Americans use that money to pay the mortgage, buy food, shop at the mall, etc.  All of this borrowing and spending by the U.S. government has created a “false prosperity” bubble that is not real.  It may feel real to you right now, but it is unsustainable by definition.  If the U.S. government suddenly started spending only the money that it actually brought in every year, our economy would be doomed and all of this “false prosperity” would rapidly disappear.  But if the U.S. government continues to rack up debt at this pace we are doomed as well.  In fact, every dollar that gets borrowed makes our eventual collapse ever worse.  We are heading down the exact same road that Greece has gone.  Eventually the rest of the world is not going to lend us gigantic mountains of super cheap money anymore.  When the flow of cheap money stops, it can be extremely painful.  Anyone that has ever seen the interest rates on their credit cards go above 20 percent knows how this feels.  If we had addressed these problems as a nation a decade or two ago, perhaps we could have found a solution.  But now there is no way out under our current financial system and a devastating economic collapse is on the horizon no matter what we do…..

CRITIC’S CORNER MONDAY: ‘HOUSE’, ‘HART OF DIXIE’, ‘CASTLE’ – Robert Bianco @ USA Today
House (Fox, 8 ET/PT) tonight begins the second half of what will probably be its final season — though remember, on TV, “probably” can turn into “probably not” just like that.

House is in a conjugal mood, with an Alzheimer’s patient whose problems with a drug trial seem to be linked to problems in his marriage, and another a married patient who claims to be chaste.

Hart of Dixie (CW, 9 ET/PT) returns for its winter debut as well, compounding the shock many felt when it returned for its second episode.

There’s something to be said for airing on a network that has really low expectations.

A famous dog trainer is killed on Castle (ABC, 10 ET/PT), and the main suspect is a reality star (Hilarie Burton) who became famous, says ABC, “without possessing any discernible skill or talent.”

If you’re wondering whom the show may be mocking, you’ll find lots of ready suspects on-air tonight, hiding out on Bravo or E! or, for that matter, on ABC right before Castle.

Five-0's O'Loughlin, German, and Caan

Hawaii Five-0 (CBS, 10 ET/PT) repeats the episode introducing Lauren German as Officer Lori Weston — in case you missed it and have wondered what she’s doing there.
