It’s quite apparent we have a president who values political expediency over all else..
As I return to publishing observations here, the nation sees itself on the brink of yet another presidential campaign. November 2016 will be here before you know it!…
We have 3 Republicans, Sen. Rand Paul (KY), Sen. Marco Rubio (FL), and Sen. Ted Cruz (TX) up against former Secretary of State and Democrat New York senator, Hillary Clinton.
The themes and memes are already underway in attempts to set the narrative. True to form, the Democrats have trotted out some of their worthless, tasteless voices to express insipid opinions on the Republican field. These quotes are definitely worth retaining as the campaigns move forward…
The effortlessly moronic DNC chair, Debbie Wasserman Schutlz, shares her take… – The Guardian, April 7, 2015
This from a woman who claims her daughter expressed concerned she would be shot following the Rep. Gabby Giffords incident in Arizona…
The walking cadaver and former Senator majority leader from Nevada uttered that description as he recovers from what he expects everyone to believe was an injury from an exercise machine…Right..Harry….right….The former House majority leader, Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) comments to Katie Couric on the candidacy of Marco Rubio… As you might recall, Pelosi proudly proclaimed Obamacare had to be passed into law before we could find out what was in it! To this day, she retains the crown as the most lame brain woman in Congress!
Things are just getting underway. That being said, I detect a hint of concern on the part of the Democrats. They’re realizing the lies they’ve told for decades are losing their political value..fast!
As with most EVERYTHING in the Obama administration, the unfolding immigration and border crisis is escalating into a catastrophe…Not necessarily for him, but for the nation.
The Economic Collapse blog, as they usually do, has the perfect analysis of the most damaging, disastrous president this nation has seen….
“For years, the Obama administration has been making it abundantly clear that it is a friend of illegal immigrants. Border security is a joke, the federal government refuses to go after “sanctuary cities” even though they are breaking federal law, there is a website that instructs immigrants how to sign up for welfare programs once they arrive in the United States, and the Obama administration has distributed flyers that tell illegal immigrants that their immigration status will not be checked when they apply for food stamps. And Obama has even instructed officials to use “prosecutorial discretion” in deportation cases involving non-criminals. In other words, Obama has been flashing a huge green light to illegal immigrants, and so of course our borders were going to be inundated with them.
Apologists for the Obama administration will debate you all day about what Obama “intended” and what he didn’t “intend”, but there is no doubt about what message immigrants from Central America have been receiving.
For example, one young mother recently told the press that she heard that if you “go to America with your child, you won’t be turned away”.
And you can view video of a little boy from Central America telling an investigate reporter that he believes that Barack Obama has “given permission” for him to live in the United States right here.
It isn’t an accident that our southern border is literally being flooded with illegal immigrants right now. Newspapers in El Salvador and Honduras have been publicizing how easy illegal immigration has become, and even the President of Honduras has said that people are coming to the United States for “Obama’s amnesty”.
When they arrive, thousands upon thousands of these illegal immigrants are using rehearsed answers that border patrol agents are hearing over and over again. Word has spread that if illegal immigrants claim that they are “fleeing gang violence” that it is more likely that they will be allowed to stay.
What we are witnessing down on the southern border is really unprecedented. It has been estimated that twelve times as many kids are crossing our borders illegally now compared to just a few years ago.
And they just keep on coming.
This is utter madness.
Now, please don’t think that I am anti-immigrant. I am all for legal immigration. This is a nation of immigrants and we will always need immigration. But everyone should be required to come in through the front door. Encouraging illegal immigration is simply a recipe for disaster.
If we keep the back door wide open, the truth is that we have absolutely no idea who is coming into our country. Do we really want countless numbers of criminals, welfare parasites, drug dealers and gang members pouring into our cities? According to the FBI, there are now approximately 1.4 million gang members living in the United States, and it has been estimated that illegal immigrants make up approximately 30 percent of the total population in federal, state and local prisons.
And why in the world would we not want to control the diseases coming into this country? Over the past several weeks, it has been documented that some of the illegal immigrants that have been apprehended have scabies and tuberculosis.
But instead of sending them right back out of the country, U.S. officials are setting up camps for this tsunami of illegal immigrants. In other cases, the federal government is simply putting them on buses and planes and shipping them all over the country. The illegal immigrants are released into their new communities and are given papers which order them to eventually appear in court, but of course the vast majority of them never show up. You can see a map that documents areas where the federal government has been shipping illegal immigrants right here.
The rational thing to do would be to secure our borders and to send a very clear message that illegal immigration is not welcome in the United States.
But instead of doing that, the Obama administration is actually bringing in a riot squad to deal with anti-immigration protesters.
During normal times all of this would be crazy enough, but right now we are at a point where we cannot even take care of millions upon millions of our own citizens.
We are told that illegal immigrants do the jobs “that Americans don’t want to do”, but is that really accurate?
In this day and age, there is intense competition for just about any kind of a job. Despite what the mainstream media says, the truth is that there hasn’t been a significant employment recovery in the United States. As you can see from the chart posted below, the percentage of the working age population that is actually working is still far, far below where it was just prior to the last recession…
Yes, there has been a very slight bump in the numbers in recent months, but it is certainly no reason for celebration. When the mainstream media declares that unemployment in America has been steadily going down, they are simply being disingenuous. Right now things are only slightly better than they were during the worst times of the past several years.
And according to shadowstats.com, the broadest measure of unemployment is still well over 20 percent and has been steadily rising since the end of the last recession.
So no, there aren’t nearly enough jobs in the United States.
And thanks to competition from immigrant labor and thanks to the fact that millions of good jobs have been shipped overseas, the quality of our jobs continues to decline as well. For much more on that trend, please see this article.
Needless to say, now is not the time to open up the floodgates to millions of immigrants that will need jobs to support themselves. Many of our major cities are already so economically depressed that they look like war zones. In fact, things have gotten so bad in Detroit that a plan is being considered to bulldoze a fifth of the entire city…
In May, a group ominously titled the “Detroit Blight Removal Task Force” released a report claiming that around 22 percent of the city’s properties were “blighted” – vacant, damaged or considered dangerous. They also found that, of the 84,000 properties owned by public entities, just over 5,000 were occupied by squatters, making the city of Detroit, the report’s authors noted, “a very large and inadvertent landlord”.
The task force’s proposed solution is to demolish it all over the next five years and start again. Unfortunately, the plan doesn’t extend to rebuilding the properties – it’ll be down to private companies and developers to buy up the land and rebuild.
For much more on the decay of our major cities, please see my previous article entitled “The Death Of The Rust Belt”.
Considering the fact that we are already having such a severe problem taking care of our current population, what do you think is going to happen to these waves of illegal immigrants as they attempt to settle in to communities all around the nation?
Ultimately, we are going to have to end up financially supporting a very large percentage of them too.
Right now, more than 20 percent of children in this country are already living in poverty, and 49 million Americans are dealing with food insecurity.
If Obama continues to encourage mass illegal immigration, those numbers are going to get much worse.
Government dependence is already at an all-time record high, and about half the country currently receives benefits of some sort from the federal government every month.
How much more weight can we put on the “safety net” before it breaks? Just check out some more numbers about this crisis from one of my previous articles…
-Ten years ago, the number of women in the U.S. that had jobs outnumbered the number of women in the U.S. on food stamps by more than a 2 to 1 margin. But now the number of women in the U.S. on food stamps actually exceeds the number of women that have jobs.
-The U.S. government has spent an astounding 3.7 trillion dollars on welfare programs over the past five years.
-Today, the federal government runs about 80 different “means-tested welfare programs”, and almost all of those programs have experienced substantial growth in recent years.
-Back in 1960, the ratio of social welfare benefits to salaries and wages was approximately 10 percent. In the year 2000, the ratio of social welfare benefits to salaries and wages was approximately 21 percent. Today, the ratio of social welfare benefits to salaries and wages is approximately 35 percent.
-While Barack Obama has been in the White House, the total number of Americans on food stamps has gone from 32 million to nearly 47 million.
-Back in the 1970s, about one out of every 50 Americans was on food stamps. Today, about one out of every 6.5 Americans is on food stamps.
-It sounds crazy, but the number of Americans on food stamps now exceeds the entire population of the nation of Spain.
-According to one calculation, the number of Americans on food stamps is now greater than the combined populations of “Alaska, Arkansas, Connecticut, Delaware, District of Columbia, Hawaii, Idaho, Iowa, Kansas, Maine, Mississippi, Montana, Nebraska, Nevada, New Hampshire, New Mexico, North Dakota, Oklahoma, Oregon, Rhode Island, South Dakota, Utah, Vermont, West Virginia, and Wyoming.”
-According to a report from the Center for Immigration Studies, 43 percent of all immigrants that have been in the United States for at least 20 years are still on welfare.
A lot of people that are trying to immigrate here illegally just want to make a better life for themselves, and I can appreciate that.
But a policy of making it incredibly difficult for honest people to come in through the front door while keeping the back door completely wide open for lawbreakers is a recipe for national suicide.
And right now we don’t have jobs for these immigrants.
We can’t even take care of the people that are already living here.
Something desperately needs to be done about this, but I wouldn’t hold your breath waiting for Obama to make a bold move to stop illegal immigrants from pouring over the border.”
As yet another holiday season approaches, you’re often given to times of reflection…pondering…wondering.
As has been the hallmark of the Obama presidency, we’re again facing difficult times across the country. There is indeed plenty to be thankful for. Nevertheless, I can’t help but concern myself with a nation that SAYS it’s worried about our future, yet seems to continue to empower those whose mission is to hinder our survival as a society. Barack Obama has been an abject, miserable failure as a leader, as a President. His destructive, maligned view of our nation continues to lead us down an uncertain, at best, path. Hopefully, with the massive unravelling of ‘obamacare’, more Americans are waking up to the FACT that his vision is NOT what’s best for this country.
The Economic Collapse blog expands upon the concerns of Americans and how they view what’s ahead. As things are now, dark days still loom…
“I FEAR FOR WHAT’S COMING!” – 68 % of Americans believe the country is on the wrong track!
Are you deeply concerned about the future of America? Is something in your gut telling you that our system is fundamentally broken and that the mainstream media is not telling you the truth about what is happening? If so, you are definitely not alone. Right now, there are millions upon millions of Americans that are absolutely horrified as they watch this nation deteriorate. In fact, according to an analysis of recent polling data conducted by Real Clear Politics , approximately 68 percent of all Americans believe that the country is on the wrong track and only 23.5 percent of all Americans believe that the country is on the right track. And of course our problems did not appear just recently. In fact, many of them are the result of decades of very foolish decisions and they are not going to be fixed easily. Unfortunately, there is very little consensus among Americans about how to fix any of our problems. There is more anger, frustration, hatred and division in the United States today than there has been in decades, and there is very little hope that the great storms that are looming on the horizon will be averted. Those that are wise are preparing for what is coming. Those that are not are going to be absolutely blindsided by what is rapidly approaching.
Once upon a time, America was the wealthiest nation on the entire globe by a huge margin and it had the largest and most thriving middle class the world had ever seen. But now America is drowning in the biggest ocean of red ink in the history of the planet and the middle class is being systematically destroyed.
If you read my articles on a regular basis, you already know all of this. But now there are certain factors that are going to cause the problems of the middle class to greatly accelerate.
For instance, just consider what Obamacare is going to do to millions of American families.
The Foundry recently posted a story that detailed the extreme hardship that Obamacare is going to impose on one middle class family in Sonora, California. This particular family is very healthy and does not have a history of health problems. Up until now, they have had a health insurance policy with Anthem Blue Cross Insurance that they have been very happy with.
Back in 2011, this family was paying $389 a month for health insurance.
In 2012, due to changes in California law that figure went up to $499 a month.
Now, this family has just received a letter informing them that their current plan is being canceled and that if they want a new plan it is going to cost them $1,252 a month.
Needless to say, that news did not go over very well with that family.
Just think about it.
Can you come up with an extra $753 a month for health insurance?
Most American families certainly cannot.
Well, Kate Joy and her husband sat down and started trying to figure out how they could squeeze the new health insurance policy into their budget. It turned out that they would have to cut out a lot of things. The following is a list of the proposed cuts that they have come up with so far …
- Stop paying the extra payment on my mortgage: $100/month
- Stop eating out: $150/month
- Don’t go to the movies: $36/month
- Switch to getting a haircut every other month: $15/month
- Stop getting manicures: $40/month
- Stop monthly charitable donations to Wounded Warrior and Habitat for Humanity: $70/month
- Stop saving for an annual anniversary getaway: $60/month
- No Christmas gifts to extended family: $40/month
- Quit buying beef at the grocery store: $100/month
- Teeth cleaning only once per year: $30/month
- Cancel all magazine/newspaper subscriptions: at least $30/month
- Cut DISH service to cheaper plan: $50/month
- Cancel land line phone service: $70/month
If they make all of those cuts, it will save the family $791 a month.
Understandably, that family is having a very hard time feeling optimistic about the future right now. In fact, at the end of the article Kate Joy is quoted as saying the following…
“I fear for what’s coming.”
And of course her family is not the only one that is being absolutely hammered by Obamacare.
In a previous article , I discussed the results of one study which showed that health insurance premiums for men are going to go up by an average of 99 percent under Obamacare and health insurance premiums for women are going to go up by an average of 62 percent under Obamacare.
And a different study found that health insurance premiums for healthy 30-year-old men are going to go up by an average of 260 percent under Obamacare.
All of this is going to suck a tremendous amount of “discretionary income” out of the economy.
In addition, millions upon millions of Americans are going to make the choice to go without health insurance altogether. And considering the level of care that we get in many of these hospitals that is understandable. For example, the body of 57-year-old Lynne Spalding was recently discovered in a stairwell at San Francisco General Hospital 17 days after she had disappeared from her hospital room.
Those that provide our “health care” don’t care about us as much as they did in the old days. Instead, the health care industry just wants to get as much money out of us as rapidly as they can and then move on to the next victim.
And of course health care is not the only thing that middle class families have to be concerned about these days. Our national employment crisis is getting even worse, incomes are shrinking , and Obama is pushing Congress to approve a secret treaty that will ship millions more of our jobs out of the country.
And there are certainly a lot of troubling economic signs as we head toward 2014. Just consider the following examples…
-Pending home sales in the United States have fallen for five months in a row .
-Machinery giant Caterpillar is reporting negative retail sales growth in every region on the globe. Historically, the sales growth of Caterpillar has been one of the most important indications of where the economy is headed next.
-Major banks are warning the Federal Reserve that they may have to start charging depositors a fee . In other words, you may soon have to pay for the “privilege” of putting your money in the bank.
Of course this is just the beginning. Things are going to get much, much worse in the years ahead as our economy continues to deteriorate.
And as things continue to fall apart, people are going to become a lot more desperate. To get an idea of what is coming to America, just look at what is happening in Greece. Some poor people in Greece have become so desperate that they are literally infecting themselves with HIV just so that they can get monthly government payments…
Suicides rose by 17% between 2007 and 2009 and to 25% in 2010, according to unofficial 2010 data (398). The Minister of Health reported a further 40% rise in the first half of 2011 compared with the same period in 2010. Suicide attempts have also increased, particularly among people reporting economic distress (610). Homicide and theft rates have doubled. HIV rates and heroin use have risen significantly, with about half of new HIV infections being self-inflicted to enable people to receive benefits of €700 per month and faster admission on to drug-substitution programmes. Prostitution has also risen, probably as a response to economic hardship. Health care access has declined as hospital budgets have been cut by about 40% (398) and it is estimated that 26 000 public health workers (9100 doctors) will lose their jobs (611). Further cuts are expected as a result of recent negotiations with the IMF and European Central Bank.
If you doubt this, you can find the original report with these findings right here .
A lot of people accuse me of being a “doom and gloomer” for writing articles like this.
A lot of people accuse me of trying to spread worry and fear.
But I do not see it that way at all.
I was recently asked what the number one issue is that has me so worried that it keeps me up at night.
Do you know what my answer was?
Nothing that I write about keeps me up at night.
I am not worried about what is coming and I do not believe in giving in to fear.
Rather, I believe that there is hope in understanding what is happening, and I believe that there is hope in getting prepared.
Do you want to know who is going to be totally giving in to worry, fear and despair in the years ahead?
The people that are not getting prepared right now.
Do you want to know who is going to be jumping off the top of tall buildings in the years ahead?
The people that are laughing at articles like this one.
For most adults in America, they primarily define their lives by their jobs, their material possessions and by all of the toys that they have accumulated. When those things get taken away, we are going to see a national hissy fit that is absolutely unprecedented.
The Republicans are not going to save us from the storm that is coming and neither are the Democrats.
It is coming.
That is why I am urging people to get prepared on an individual basis, a family basis and a community basis.
If you prepare yourself and your family now, you will have a much better chance of surviving the coming storm. And you will be in much better position to help those that will need your assistance.
If you think back throughout history, most of those that we consider to be the greatest “heroes” emerged during times of great crisis.
Well, another time of great crisis is coming, and this will be a tremendous opportunity for a new generation of heroes to arise.
So do not cower in fear because of what is coming. Rather, use this time to get prepared for the greatest challenges and the greatest opportunities that you have ever known.
When things are the darkest, that is when the light is needed the most.
Choose to be a light. America will soon need you greatly.”
You know the type. Those that purport to know what’s better for you than YOU do. We have a bumper crop of those currently on the socio-political stage. Of course, we’re supposed to accept this “worldly wisdom” on face value. Truth be told, it’s all a joke…a sham. Much like the current occupier of the White House.
National Review’s Victor Davis Hanson takes a look at what’s behind the smokescreen of lies and deception when it comes to these wizards of philosophical and enlightened thinking!
The elite lead a mostly reactionary existence of talking one way and living another.
“One of the strangest things about the modern progression in liberal thought is its increasing comfort with elitism and high style. Over the last 30 years, the enjoyment of refined tastes, both material and psychological, has become a hallmark of liberalism — hand in glove with the art of professional altruism, so necessary to the guilt-free enjoyment of the good life. Take most any contemporary issue, and the theme of elite progressivism predominates.
Higher education? A visitor from Mars would note that the current system of universities and colleges is designed to promote the interests of an elite at the expense of the middle and lower-middle classes. UCLA, Yale, and even CSUStanislaus run on premises far more reactionary and class-based than does Wal-Mart. The teaching loads and course responsibilities of tenured full professors have declined over the last half-century, while the percentage of units taught by graduate students and part-time faculty, with few benefits and low pay, has soared.
The number of administrators has likewise climbed — even as student indebtedness has skyrocketed, along with the unemployment rate among recent college graduates. A typical scenario embodying these bizarre trends would run something like the following: The UC assistant provost for diversity affairs, or the full professor of Italian literature, focusing on gender and the self, depend on lots of graduate and undergraduate students in the social sciences and humanities piling up debt without any guarantee of jobs, while part-time faculty subsidize the formers’ lifestyles by teaching, without grading assistants, the large introductory undergraduate courses, getting paid a third to half what those with tenure receive.
The conference and the academic book, with little if any readership, promote the career interest and income of the trendy administrator and the full professor, and are subsidized by either the taxpayers or the students or both. All of the above assumes that a nine-month teaching schedule, with tenure, grants, sabbaticals, and release time, are above reproach and justify yearly tuition hikes exceeding the rate of inflation. The beneficiaries of the system win exemption from criticism through loud support of the current progressive agenda, as if they were officers with swagger sticks in the culture wars who must have their own perks if they are to properly lead the less-well-informed troops out of the trenches.
Take illegal immigration. On the facts, it is elitist to the core. Big business, flush with cash, nevertheless wants continued access to cheap labor, and so favors amnesties for millions who arrived without English, education, or legality. On the other end of the scale, Jorge Hernandez, making $9 an hour mowing lawns, is not enthusiastic about an open border, which undercuts his meager bargaining power with his employer.
The state, not the employer, picks up the cost of subsidies to ensure that impoverished illegal-immigrant workers from Oaxaca have some semblance of parity with American citizens in health care, education, legal representation, and housing. The employers’ own privilege exempts them from worrying whether they would ever need to enroll their kids in the Arvin school system, or whether an illegal-alien driver will hit their daughter’s car on a rural road and leave the scene of the accident. In other words, no one in Atherton is in a trailer house cooking meth; the plastic harnesses of missing copper wire from streetlights are not strewn over the sidewalks in Palo Alto; and the Menlo schools do not have a Bulldog-gang problem.
Meanwhile, ethnic elites privately understand that the melting pot ensures eventual parity with the majority and thereby destroys the benefits of hyphenation. So it becomes essential that there remain always hundreds of thousands of poor, uneducated, and less-privileged immigrants entering the U.S. from Latin America. Only that way is the third-generation Latino professor, journalist, or politician seen as a leader of group rather than as an individual. Take away illegal immigration, and the Latino caucus and Chicano graduation ceremony disappear, and the beneficiaries become just ordinary politicians and academics, distinguished or ignored on the basis of their own individual performance.
Mexico? Beneath the thin veneer of Mexican elites suing Americans in U.S. courts is one of the most repressive political systems in the world. Mexican elites make the following cynical assumptions: Indigenous peoples are better off leaving Mexico and then scrimping to send billions of dollars home in remittances; that way, they do not agitate for missing social services back home; and once across the border, they act as an expatriate community to leverage concessions from the United States.
Nannies, gardeners, cooks, and personal attendants are increasingly recent arrivals from Latin America — even as the unemployment rates of Latino, African-American, and working-class white citizens remain high, with compensation relatively low. No wonder that loud protestations about “xenophobes, racists, and nativists” oil the entire machinery of elite privilege. Does the liberal congressman or the Washington public advocate mow his own lawn, clean his toilet, or help feed his 90-year-old mother? At what cost would he cease to pay others to do these things — $20, $25 an hour? And whom would he hire if there were no illegal immigrants? The unemployed African-American teenager in D.C.? The unemployed Appalachian in nearby West Virginia? I think not.
Or take the green industry. At about the same time that statisticians readjusted the first-quarter GDP growth markedly downward — to a 1.8 percent annual rate, from the previously reported 2.4 percent — President Obama announced sweeping new regulations to curtail carbon emissions that will hamper the coal industry, further slow the economy — and delight his elite green base. Al Gore thought the speech historic. And why would he not? Gore has made hundreds of millions of dollars in the Marcus Licinius Crassus style of hyping a disaster and then profiting from its remedy. Gore hates carbon emissions. So much so that he dismisses those who live by them, such as coal-company executives, coal miners, and the rubes who mindlessly use coal-based electricity. But Gore also likes money and what money can do for him — SUVs, private jet travel, multiple residences. That’s why he just sold his interest in a failed cable-television network to a broadcasting network backed by a Middle Eastern authoritarian sheikhdom, known for both its anti-Semitism and its huge cash profits from the sale of fossil fuels. Take away the talk of polar bears and melting ice caps, and Gore becomes just another huckster, cashing in on oil profits from the Middle East, a region that is ensured continuance of its riches in part because of environmental restrictions that hamper fracking, horizontal drilling, and coal production on public lands in the United States.
Here in central California there are predictable themes to the new environmentalism: Land that could produce food and provide jobs will be idled to protect a bait fish in the Sacramento–San Joaquin River Delta. Rivers that are critical to irrigation and are anchors of the economy will be diverted to their 19th-century course in order to fulfill the dream of salmon runs through a desert-like San Joaquin Valley, and hundreds of billions of dollars worth of gas and oil that could be fracked and provide jobs for communities suffering 10-plus percent unemployment will be ignored. On one side, there are academics, lawyers, high government officials, those with inherited wealth, and those with enough capital to easily afford the higher taxes and higher costs of fuel, power, and food that are the inevitable wages of their own boutique ideology. On the other side, there are the apparent losers and clingers who are out of work, who pay over $4 a gallon for gas for their silly used Dodge Ram trucks, and who stupidly splurge by turning their air conditioners on for an hour or two a day in 108-degree Fresno.
In the real world, the tiny delta smelt is a good psychological totem for a well-paid Google exec in Mountain View, who doesn’t mind paying a little more for his arugula or paying higher sales taxes. But the worship of a bait fish is not shared by Manuel Lopez, a tractor driver in Bakersfield who has no more fields to disc this summer. Those in breezy, cool Malibu hate coal, and apparently believe those who mine it would be better off on food stamps and unemployment insurance, which the generous seaside denizens would so selflessly be willing to pay for.
Take gun control. What caused the latest round of furor over the Second Amendment was not gun-related deaths per se. In fact, they have been declining overall in the United States for some time. Nor is it the death toll in Chicago, where last year over 500 mostly African-American and Latino youths gunned each other down, almost exclusively with illegally obtained handguns in a city that has enacted among the tightest gun laws in the nation. Instead, the horrible tragedies of Columbine and Sandy Hook and Aurora suggest that the atypical shooter with a semi-automatic long gun will on rare occasions slaughter anywhere, from an upscale school to a cinema in a good neighborhood. Worse still, the most effective remedies for stopping these typically young, white, unhinged suburbanite shooters — detain the mentally ill far more frequently, curb the promiscuous use of psychotropic drugs, treat violent video games for our youth as we do pornography, jawbone Hollywood to show some restraint in its graphic and titillating portrays of gun carnage — rub up against liberal elite views on mental health, civil liberties, free expression, and the arts.
The result is that the elite find resonance in demonizing the largely white lower-middle-class gun crowd, who are not responsible for the vast majority of yearly gun deaths, but whose culture as the proverbial clingers is ripe for caricature and the fuel of elite outrage. No gun law that Barack Obama has supported would have stopped any of the recent suburban violence — given the millions of weapons that exist throughout the United States. To stop Sandy Hook — where the deranged Adam Lanza stole from his own mother firearms that she had legally purchased — the president would have had to confiscate privately owned semi-automatic rifles and larger clips, or made the possession of existing rifle ammunition illegal. No matter: Obama knew well that the liberal elites were outraged that savage violence had hit the suburbs; he knew too that there was nothing he could do to stop it that was acceptable to those elites, while there were lots of cultural targets that would at least allow the elites to vent. Thus followed the hysterical calls to ban all sorts of evil-looking black “assault weapons” and the demonization of the redneck beer-bellies who for some reason like to shoot them at their inane target ranges.
Modern liberalism, among other things, is a psychological state, in which very-well-off Americans find ways through their income and privilege to be exempt from the ramifications of their own ideologies, while adopting causes and pets that exempt them from guilt over their own status and limitless opportunities. Judging by their concrete actions, they are indifferent to the poor whom they romanticize at a safe distance. In short, voting for larger government and subsidies is seen as a necessary cost of being a reactionary, liberal elite.”
It doesn’t take much for sheer stupidity to rise to the forefront of today’s Democratic party…Here are three of the latest shining examples….
California’s lame brain Sen. Barbara Boxer(D), attempting to link the Oklahoma tornado to climate change, not to mention an excuse for a new tax….
Michigan’s moronic Sen. Carl Levin (D) attempting to lay blame at Apple’s doorstep for the country’s fiscal woes…It’s clear ANY successful company will be a target in today’s idiotic political climate. The way things are going, NO business will be allowed to make a profit. Apple did nothing illegal in its payment of taxes, yet these fools in the Senate like Mr. Levin will look for any scapegoat to cover up for their mishandling of our nation’s finances.
Rhode Island’s foolishly idiotic Sen. Sheldon Whitehouse (D), again, blaming global warming for the Oklahoma tornado…and apparently the rest of the country too…
THIS type of thinking is what continues to do damage to our nation. These members of the Senate haven’t a CLUE what life outside of D.C. is like for everyday Americans. Yet, they can espouse idiotic commentary from their lofty positions…which I can GUARANTEE you not a one of them is worthy of the job…and we’re supposed to look at them as champions, as benefactors. Their shameless, disgraceful behavior in government is what should be the cause for concern. They are there to serve themselves alone. They carry a dangerous amount of power to influence life in this nation and on that they have miserably failed! They have no dignity and no shame. I see absolutely NOTHING in common with the likes of Boxer, Levin, or Whitehouse…as well as many other members of Congress. The sooner THIS type of politician is removed from office, the better for the nation!
Found an excellent piece by ‘The White House Dossier’s’ Keith Koffler. It was actually written for ‘The Politico’. I’ve followed the site for some time. However, this is the first time I’ve had an opportunity to feature a posting. It’s a great take on the growing arrogant attitude displayed by Mr. Obama….
OBAMA’S HUBRIS PROBLEM
“Tuesday morning, a peculiar announcement trickled out of the White House press office: President Barack Obama would be holding a moment of silence for the victims of the Boston bombings. At the White House. By himself. No press or other intruders allowed.
Except the White House photographer.
Hubris in a leader is an obnoxious thing, leading to imperiousness in governing. And it’s also a dangerous thing for a second-term president, often spelling trouble.
Unfortunately, this president’s acts of high handedness and self-absorption have been accumulating in the past several months at a blistering pace.
Even as the nation’s workers wilted under a struggling economy and high unemployment, Obama decided to take two round excursions to Hawaii at taxpayer expense over the Christmas and New Year’s holidays. Just six weeks later, he jetted down to Florida for a luxury four-day golf vacation where he played with Tiger Woods. Meanwhile Michelle Obama also took another vacation, skiing in Colorado.
Even as the sequester began to force those who work for him in the federal government to take furloughs and government services were scaled back – including, famously, the White House tours – Obama stepped up his golf, roaring out of the White House in his motorcade three Saturdays in a row for the 50-minute round trip drive to the Joint Base Andrews course.
In a true Marie Antoinette moment, Obama offered to pare back his pay by five percent as a show of empathy for those being furloughed. At annual salary of $400,000, that would force him to get by on a meager $380,000, in addition to a couple of hundred thousand extra dollars he can probably expect to make this year from book sales.
He had Memphis soul music legends throw a command performance for himself and the first lady in the East Room. He commended California’s attorney general for being the hottest of all the state AGs. He gave himself an exclusive viewing in the White House theater of the Jackie Robinson biopic, “42.”
On Saturday night, he’ll be partying with journalists and their celebrity guests at the annual White House Correspondents’ Association bash.
All while the nation continues to suffer under his stewardship of the economy.
When gun legislation he backed failed to pass last week, he threw an epic hissy fit in the Rose Garden, proclaiming his opponents liars who thought “it wasn’t worth it” to protect kids from gun violence.
He said contemptuously that what “binds Republicans together” is their commitment to helping the rich. He delivered his budget two months late to Congress.
Such disregard for appearances and disdain for his opposition suggests a president who perceives himself as free from the fetters that keep normal people in line and give presidents a sense of perspective.
Obama is already giving off that “L’etat, c’est moi” vibe, effectively legislating from the Oval Office.
He is picking and choosing which laws to enforce – like deciding not to deport certain groups of immigrants who would have been protected by the failed Dream Act and opting not to defend the Defense of Marriage Act.
This could be just the beginning. He vowed last week, as he has in the past, to advance his gun control agenda on his own. “Even without Congress, my administration will keep doing everything it can to protect more of our communities,” Obama said.
The vast new Obamacare law gives him an endless array of regulations to implement, offering a cornucopia of opportunities to interpret the statute in ways that give him powers he shouldn’t have. The 900-page immigration bill may do the same, should it pass.
But hubris may not only lead a president to stretch power, it can result in abuse of power.
Certainly the core of Watergate was corruption, but only a sense of hubris could have convinced Richard Nixon – late in his first term – that he could get away with the covering it up.
When Bill Clinton bounded out of the White House residence to see Monica Lewinsky in the Oval Office, he had to believe he was impervious to the rules that govern others – not just because of his behavior, but because he thought he wouldn’t get caught in flagrante delicto in the fishbowl that is the White House.
And what special exemption from reality did Ronald Reagan think he had when he convinced himself that he wasn’t paying ransom when he sent arms to Iran to try to secure the release of hostages the controlled in Lebanon?
If Obama starts to get too grand a sense of himself and sheds the last vestiges of concern for how others perceive him, it could lead him, as it has so many in positions of power, to believe he is beyond accountability. And that could end up as a tragedy for him, and for the nation.”
