“Pearls of Wisdom”

With so much constantly thrown at us in today’s out of control world, I’ve been searching for a summation that adequately puts it into words.

Of course, leave it to ‘The Godfather’ to put it all in perspective!

Here’s an excerpt from Rush Limbaugh’s radio show on May 14, 2015. I’ve added appropriate illustrations, but once you give it a read, you’ll see how it explains how we’ve come in these dire straits….

Within minutes of this train derailment you just knew the word ‘infrastructure’ was gonna be bandied about all over the place, and it was.   The word ‘infrastructure’ was halfway around the world before anybody found out that infrastructure had nothing to do with this, that it was an engineer.”

“How many other reporters have donated to the Clinton Crime Family Foundation?  That’s what I want to know.  I don’t think it stops Stephanopoulos.”

“What other reporters and news people and who knows who else have donated to the Clinton Crime Family Foundation?  That, to me, is the big question, and I don’t know that we’re ever gonna get an answer.  Wouldn’t it be funny if the New England Patriots have?  He-he.  Just kidding.”

“You may think that there’s still a line between journalism and politicians, the president.  That’s gone.  It’s totally gone.”

“All of this fraud that is occurring to the American people, it didn’t start with Obama, and I don’t want anybody to think that that’s what I believe.  Fraud, at the highest levels of US government, has been going on for a while.  It would be hard, actually, to peg when it began.”

“There’s a reason so many people want to live in Washington.  If you want money, that’s where it is; that’s where it’s allocated; that’s where it’s taxed; that’s where it’s collected; that’s where it’s banked; that’s where it is spent. ”

“The degree and the level of fraud and deceit in the past six and a half years is so bad and so deep that it’s the reason we have the Tea Party.  The degree of fraud, the irresponsible spending and money that we don’t have, has millions of Americans legitimately concerned for the future of the country, particularly in terms of economic opportunity for their kids and grandkids.”

Uncle Sam's arm with palm up on white background

“Where does the government get money?  They have to take it in the form of taxes or borrowing. They take the money from the economy that they’re gonna stimulate.”

“The stimulus bill was not about infrastructure any more than Obamacare is about affordable health insurance.  You cannot fully fund fraud.  You can never satisfy con men.”

“When normal people yesterday, average, ordinary, the people that make this country work, when they were mourning the dead, when they were seriously worried about the accident and the damage and the injuries, the Democrats were out celebrating a crisis while the bodies were still scattered across an accident site. They saw an opportunity to once again defame conservatives and Republicans.  They misstated facts, such as dilapidated infrastructure was the cause of the derailment.”

“The right to private property, I think it’s right in there with free speech, freedom of religion, freedom of assembly.  Not to say the other amendments are of less importance.  It’s hard to quantify them that way.  They’re all crucial, and they’re all relevant, and they are all purposeful and unique in defining this country as something separate and distinct from every other country that exists or ever has.”

“Liberals love Europe, and Europe equals trains.  Trains equal Europe.  Trains equal good liberal.  Trains also equal saving the climate and all this cockamamie crap.”

“You know what New England called the guy that was letting the air of the footballs? The Deflator.  The Patriots are saying, ‘No, he lost a lot of weight.  That’s why he was called the Deflator.’ Come on! There’s never been a person in the world that lost a lot of weight that anybody ever called the Deflator.”

“By the way, the latest pictures of the guy? He hasn’t lost any weight, it doesn’t look like to me.  So I don’t know what the Deflator looked like before he started deflating.”

“You know, it’s a good thing, folks, I have a strong, strong constitution, spine, and am well adjusted, otherwise I would be in the loony bin.”

“Obama’s over $800 billion stimulus bill back in 2009 was an infrastructure bill, so we were told.  Repair roads, bridges, schools, and all that.  It turns out to be as big a lie as Obamacare. The stimulus bill wasn’t about infrastructure any more than Obamacare is about affordable health insurance.”

“One thing that the Bushes are, they’re tight. They’re a very tight family, and loyalty is the coin of the realm to them. I say that in a noncritical way.  Just informative. Jeb is not going to throw his brother under the bus.”

“You’ve heard the old saw, ‘If you criticize Obama, if you criticize Democrats, the independents don’t like it and they’re gonna run right back to the Democrat Party.’ Never mind the fact that the Democrat Party does nothing but defame Republicans.”

“Not every road and bridge and school is federal. It’s up to states to do some of this stuff, too.  Or a combined federal-state effort.”

“Let’s say it’s accurate, that 5% of the federal budget is for infrastructure. Fine and dandy.  That just means the Democrats are gonna have some crumbling infrastructure they can blame on the Republicans.”

“The Republicans haven’t had anything to say about what happens in Baltimore since the 1960s.”

“I don’t know how long ago you have to go back to be able to say that the Democrat Party had people in it that were focused on good governance, responsible government and all that.  All I know is you’ve gotta go back a long way.”

“We’re in the midst of what the Democrat Party thinks could be the last power grab necessary.  They believe if they play their cards right in the next two years, there will not be a viable Republican Party to even worry about.  That’s what they want.”

“When’s the last liberal you can think of that expressed deep concern over the way conservatives are being treated in the media?  Can you name one?”

“I am a household name in all four corners of the world, plus the frozen tundra of Antarctica.”

The excerpt does a great job exemplifying our frustration with 6+ years of this disaster in the White House…a president who has inflicted more damage and managed to pull the wool over the eyes over more voters than ANY president in U.S. history!

Clueless and Classless…

The title of this piece may have been used before. But, it accurately describes the subject matter nonetheless.

I’ve never been one to underestimate the stupidity of the American public. I know that’s a sweeping generalization. However, with the ever increasing number of idiots out there, it’s becoming more difficult to find any semblance of common sense. Witness the 2012 election! Barack Obama, easily the most dangerous and disastrous President to occupy the Oval Office, was handed a second term by a majority of Americans who know little more than anything about him beyond his celebrity status. And the sad part…they don’t WANT to know! They were willing to sacrifice the fabric of our society to empower an individual who continuously lies to them with vague promises and empty rhetoric.

But, I’m getting off track here…

The End of the American Dream blog has compiled a list of 19 items offering proof at the ignorance the American people have eagerly embraced. I’ve decided to add illustrations for those unable to grasp the context here!

Are we too stupid to continue as a nation?  That may seem like a harsh question, but I think that it is one that we need to ask.  Even though we have more access to information today than ever before, it seems like the U.S. population just keeps becoming more ignorant.  So at what point does a society become so “dumbed-down” that it can no longer function effectively?  We like to complain about our leaders, but the truth is that we are the ones that elected them.  They are a reflection of who we are as a society.  And when you compare Barack Obama, Harry Reid, Nancy Pelosi and John Boehner to men like George Washington, John Adams, Thomas Jefferson and Andrew Jackson, they don’t fare too well.  Sadly, the truth is that most of our founding fathers would not have a prayer of being elected today.  Instead, they would be labeled as crazy “extremists” for insisting that we follow the U.S. Constitution.  In our entertainment-addicted society, Lady Gaga would have a much greater chance of being elected president today than George Washington would.  That is how far we have fallen.

"I won?...really?...what did I win?.."

“I won?…really?…what did I win?..”

Perhaps you think that I am being overly pessimistic.

Perhaps you think that I should have more faith in the American people.

Well, just consider the evidence.  The following are 19 surveys which prove that a large chunk of the population is made up of totally clueless sheeple

#1 One survey found that 56 percent of Americans believe that it is okay for the government to track “the telephone records of millions of Americans” in order to keep us safe.  Apparently those people have never heard of the Fourth Amendment.

#2 When Bush was president, 61 percent of Democrats considered NSA surveillance to be “unacceptable”, but now that Obama is in the White House, only 34 percent of them consider it to be “unacceptable”.

A drone designed and constructed by Concepcion University and the Chilean army is seen during a flight test at Concepcion city

#3 67 percent of Americans support the use of unmanned drones in “homeland security missions” inside the United States.  What’s next?  Will there be “security robots” that stand in the corner and watch us as we eat dinner with our families?

airport-security#4 Close to one-third of all Americans would be willing to submit to a “TSA body cavity search” in order to fly.

Yeah..these people look like a real threat...

Yeah..these people look like a real threat…

#5 20 percent of all government workers and 26 percent of all Obama supporters consider the Tea Party to be “the biggest terror threat” that America is facing.

#6 89.7 percent of Americans believe that they are eating a healthy diet.  Meanwhile, approximately 36 percent of all Americans are obese.
#7 29 percent of Americans believe that “cloud computing” involves an actual cloud.
#8 One survey found that 42 percent of all Americans are unaware that Obamacare is law.

#9 The average American watches 28 hours of television every week.

#10 According to a survey conducted by the National Geographic Society, only 37 percent of all Americans between the ages of 18 and 24 can find the nation of Iraq on a map.
#11 Close to 25 percent of all Americans do not know that the United States declared independence from Great Britain.

#12 We are the most doped up nation in the history of the planet.  As I wrote about recently, a survey conducted by the Mayo Clinic found that 70 percent of all Americans are on at least one prescription drug.  An astounding 20 percent of all Americans are on at least five prescription drugs.

#13 According to one survey, 24 percent of all U.S. teens that have a sexually-transmitted disease say that they still have unprotected sex.

#14 Approximately one out of every five teenage girls in the United States actually wants to be a teenage mother.

#15 As I noted the other day48 percent of all Americans do not have any emergency supplies stored up at all.
#16 One survey found that 51 percent of all Americans agree with this statement: “it is necessary to give up some civil liberties in order to make the country safe from terrorism.”
#17 According to a Bloomberg survey, only 16 percent of Americans believe that the Federal Reserve should be abolished.
#18 29 percent of all Americans cannot recall the name of the vice-president of the country.
#19 In 2008, the American people voted to send Barack Obama to the White House.  After four years of watching everything that he did during his first term, the American people turned around and gave him another four years.
As a nation, we no longer seem to care much about what the U.S. Constitution actually says.  When our politicians tell us that they want to ignore large sections of the Constitution, we just shrug and go along with it.

And we have completely abandoned the values and the principles that this country was founded on.  Our society bears very little resemblance to 18th century America, and we like it that way.  We like to think that we have “progressed” far beyond where they were at, but the truth is that our country is coming apart at the seams all around us.

In this day and age, it is imperative that Americans learn to think for themselves.  Way too many Americans are just like sheep – they just blindly follow the herd.

It is time to break out of “the matrix” and to start seeing things for how they really are.  Our nation is crumbling and our leaders are taking us down a path toward oblivion.  We need to wake up our fellow Americans while there is still time.”
Sometimes it takes pointing out the absurdity to see the obvious…..

"We're the idiots that talked Marco Rubio into this sh*tty sham of an immigration bill!"

“We’re the idiots that talked Marco Rubio into this sh*tty sham of an immigration bill!”

I could go on…but, I think you get the point….

The federal government has a long tradition of ignoring the REAL problems Americans face in their day to day lives. And though I applaud yesterday’s Supreme Court decisions, they will have little, if any impact, on the lives of most. Gay or straight.

We have a nation struggling with debt, unemployment, rising costs in nearly every sector, along with countless other valid, significant problems. And as long as President Obama and the Democrats can distract you with gay marriage, immigration, women’s reproduction, etc., etc., etc….you name it…then these troubles can be ignored. But the time will come when all of this comes tumbling down and we will be left to pick up the pieces…if we can.

Think about it!…

Will You listen NOW???

Do you REALLY believe this is going to get better?…I’ve got news for you. It isn’t.

In the past, a deaf ear and a blind eye was turned to those sounding the alarm about the excesses of government, it’s abuse of power, and it’s growing intrusion in the lives of American citizens. The media dismissed…and STILL DOES, to some extent…those warnings as sensationalist, conspiratorial, and simply rooted in hate for President Obama.

In the past six months or so, we’ve had lies about Benghazi, lies about the IRS and it’s tactics, lies about the government monitoring the press, and NOW we find the National Security Agency added to the list! That’s right! Seems the NSA has been expanding the scope of mining the data of millions of phone calls placed by Verizon customers!

The single most frightening aspect of all of this is the indifference of the American people. Now, there are those making an effort to fight this ever growing pattern of abuse by the Obama administration. But, by and large, it seems to be ignored. Ignored by those that this serious injustice is perpetrated upon! The press, for the most part, plays down the Justice Department’s obtaining the phone records of the Associated Press. And a large portion of the American people don’t even seem to be AWARE of what’s happening to them!

Alabama tea party figure, Becky Gerrittson, got it right (see yesterday’s post) when she pointed out that the government no longer knows its place and we are ALL in danger of losing what this nation stands for!

Barack Obama’s response?… simple, vague lip service. Why doesn’t he say and do more?…Because it runs counter to his political agenda and his core beliefs. THAT’S WHY! Yet he presents himself as unattached to any of it. If you’re foolish enough to buy into that premise, I fear for your future and your family’s!

The Obama administration has effectively turned the nation’s citizens into enemies of the state. Nevertheless, outrage is tempered, if expressed at all. Every day the federal government is exposed for tactics which should have the American people fuming. Have we become that complacent? that jaded? If the answer to that is “yes”, then we are finished as a people. Our entire experiment in liberty has been in vain. It’s been a fraud and a sham.

I’m not ready to believe that! Are you?….

Close to Home!

Considering I have personal ties to the area, this feature story from The American Spectator was definitely worth sharing. Wetumpka, Alabama’s (a small town northeast of Montgomery) Becky Gerritson slices through all of the crap and gives the federal government a piece of her mind…and surely the sentiments of millions of other Americans!….

“Becky Gerritson and other IRS victims put the federal government in its place.

The IRS has called its targeting of conservative groups “horrible customer service”—a cold and trivializing apology befitting a federal government that sees itself as a corporate Leviathan. Officials who understood that they serve a government of, by, and for the people would never speak in such odd terms. What happened was not poor customer service but tyranny.

Appearing on Capitol Hill Tuesday, Becky Gerritson of Alabama’s Wetumpka Tea Party, along with other targets of the IRS, gave the federal government a well-deserved shafting along those lines. Gerritson effectively put her finger on the central issue underpinning the scandal:

"In Wetumpka, we are patriotic Americans; we peacefully assemble; we petition our government; we exercise our right to free speech. We don’t understand why the government tried to stop us. I’m not here as a serf or a vassal. I’m not begging my lord for mercy. I’m a born-free American woman, wife, mother, and citizen, and I’m telling my government that you’ve forgotten your place..."

“In Wetumpka, we are patriotic Americans; we peacefully assemble; we petition our government; we exercise our right to free speech. We don’t understand why the government tried to stop us. I’m not here as a serf or a vassal. I’m not begging my lord for mercy. I’m a born-free American woman, wife, mother, and citizen, and I’m telling my government that you’ve forgotten your place…..

I’m not interested in scoring political points,” she added. “I want to preserve and protect the America that I grew up in. The America that people crossed oceans and risked their lives to become a part of, and I’m terrified it’s slipping away.”

“I’m not interested in scoring political points….I want to preserve and protect the America that I grew up in. The America that people crossed oceans and risked their lives to become a part of, and I’m terrified it’s slipping away.”

Others at the hearing testified to the perversity of the IRS’s abuse: absurd delays, outrageous and intrusive questions, imperious demands.

Sue Martinek of the Coalition for Life of Iowa said that her group was asked to furnish the IRS with the “contents” of its prayers.  Under Obama’s government-as-God model, such questions apparently become thinkable. She also said that an IRS agent wanted an assurance from her that the group wouldn’t be picketing outside of any Planned Parenthood clinics.

John Eastman, chairman of the National Organization for Marriage, said that the IRS leaked confidential information about his donors to gay activists with ties to Obama.  Kevin Kookogey, the founder of Linchpins of Liberty (which hasn’t received tax-exempt status yet), said that he was told to detail his political views and associations.

In one form or another, members of the groups were all asked: Are you now or have you ever been a conservative?

Naturally, Obama is working hard to make sure that the scandal is framed in terms of isolated, individualistic error. But it goes beyond a handful of IRS employees. It goes at the very least to the bad judgment of his appointees (who have known about it since 2011) and to the tone his ideological biases set in government agencies.  His repeated denunciations of the tea party as extremist, his view of “campaign finance reform” as a justification for inhibiting political speech, and his hyper-statist conception of taxation (where the burden always falls on the taxpayer, not the government) all ripened the IRS up for his kind of scandal. Indeed, much of his rhetoric turns on the contention that conservatism is “political” while liberalism embodies “social welfare.” Double standards at the IRS surely fed off that bogus contrast.

Washington state's embarrassment..Rep. Jim McDermott (D) makes a fool of himself...

Washington state’s embarrassment..Rep. Jim McDermott (D) makes a fool of himself…

Such a raw abuse of power won’t happen again, vows Obama. Anyone who believes that should pay attention to Democratic Congressman Jim McDermott’s remarks at Tuesday’s hearing. “None of your organizations were kept from organizing or silenced. We’re talking about whether or not the American taxpayers will subsidize your work. We’re talking about a tax break,” McDermott told the witnesses. “Without oversight, a status meant for charity becomes a machine for political money laundering.” He added that “each of your groups are highly political.”

Obama can’t afford politically to agree with McDermott at the moment, but he shares that sentiment. Left to his own devices, Obama would vaporize these groups in the name of campaign finance reform. He also holds the same perverse view of a public subsidy, which is defined not by giving these groups money but by allowing them the high honor of keeping their own. Under such warped thinking it becomes possible to force groups into contortions in order to prove their worthiness for a “public benefit.”

It is the unlimited conception of the federal government built into this arrangement that Gerritson was decrying. Under the Constitution, the people are masters, not servants. But under the anti-Constitution of liberalism, the people are servants, not masters, or at best hapless customers of a monopoly that gives “horrible customer service” from time to time while still holding a contract on their freedom.”

How much MORE are we going to take?….

"Damn!...Something don't look right..."

“Damn!…Something don’t look right…”

The past 2 weeks have not been ideal for the Obama White House. And that’s putting it mildly. Benghazi blows up in their face. The I.R.S. has been targeting certain groups as to their consideration for tax exempt status. And now we have the Obama justice department secretly obtaining phone records of Associated Press reporters and editors. As for that, I find it strange since the A.P. has been in Obama’s pocket for years!

It’s all part of the unraveling of the Obama regime. We are witnessing something new with each passing day. It is also further proof that this administration is far more devious, corrupt, and vindictive than we can possibly believe. But, the American people ( a slight majority of them, actually) returned Barack Obama to office for a second term. This President ran his campaign (and he CONTINUES to campaign) based upon lies and manufactured innuendo. Now we can see it quite clearly in the way THIS White House conducts the nation’s business.

Nevertheless, I’ve never doubted for a minute that THIS President could literally get away with murder…weapon in hand…with audio and video proof…and the media would go out of the way to proclaim his innocence. It’s how blind and foolhardy we’ve become as a nation and a society. We’ve invested in a man who offers excuses and blame instead of solutions. Welcome to life in Obama’s America.

“More than this or that policy or political philosophy…”…plus TV Time!

An Obama win will be a validation of every anti-democracy critic going back to ancient Greece…”

Makes you think, doesn’t it?….A very thought provoking piece from FrontPageMag today….

Will Democracy’s Critics Be Proven Right This November?

This year’s presidential election will be about something more than this or that policy or political philosophy. The larger issue at stake is the viability of democracy itself. An Obama win will be a validation of every anti-democracy critic going back to ancient Greece.

We are so used to using the word “democracy” as a feel-good term denoting a self-evident good that we forget the traditional problems political philosophers identified with popular rule. In ancient Athens, critics like Socrates, Plato, and Thucydides attacked the assumption that ordinary people––“an audience of mere dunces and weaklings,” as Socrates called the Athenian Assembly––had enough intelligence or understanding to make life-and-death decisions affecting the state. Lacking that knowledge, they were vulnerable to ambitious demagogues who manipulated the voters with deceptive, emotional rhetoric and promises of state money. Thus rather than considering what policy or action served the long-term interests of the state as a whole, critics of Athenian democracy charged, the citizens selfishly used their political power to advance their own interests, which required the redistribution of property and wealth, and the reduction of freedom in order to achieve the equality of all.

The dangers of this tendency of democracy were famously expressed by the Greek historian Polybius: “For the mob,” Polybius wrote, “habituated to feed at the expense of others, and to have its hopes of a livelihood in the property of its neighbors, as soon as it has got a leader sufficiently ambitious and daring, being excluded by poverty from the sweets of civil honors, produces a reign of mere violence.” Fearing such an outcome, the founders of the American Republic created our mixed government of balanced powers that limited the direct influence citizens could wield on politicians.

Fast-forward 200 years to this year’s presidential campaign. Obama and the Democrats, abetted by their media lackeys, are waging a pseudo-populist campaign characterized by gross deceptions, brazen lies, and rhetorical spin worthy of the ancient Sophists. Start with Obama himself. He was elected in part because of his compelling personal story that seemingly transcended the political and racial divides of American society. Now we know that most of that story was fabricated, persons in his past were invented, memories of racial oppression were made up, and his centrist politics were mere camouflage for his progressive ideology. Meanwhile his actual life remains murky. We still don’t know what his true relationship was with terrorist Bill Ayers or the racist rabble-rouser Jeremiah Wright. We still don’t have many specifics about his health or his university career, information the spaniel press has shown no interest in obtaining even as they hector Mitt Romney to release all his tax returns, something few in Congress have any intention of doing.

Aping their boss’s tactics of deception, Obama’s political henchmen are going after Mitt Romney with slander and innuendo and “frank character assassination,” as Ross Douthat put it. Mitt Romney “isn’t just wrong on specific policies or too right-wing in general,” Douthat continues. “He’s part Scrooge, part Gordon Gekko; an un-American, Asia-loving outsourcer; a tax avoider and possibly a white-collar felon.” The complement to this toxic cloud of lies and invective is the crude populist appeals that exploit class envy and promises of income redistribution, aimed at the cohort of American voters that “have its hopes of a livelihood in the property of its neighbors.” Hence the rhetoric of “fair share” and “you didn’t build that” and “spread the wealth around,” even though Obama’s call to raise marginal tax rates on the “rich” would yield $80 billion next year, a mere 8% of Obama’s projected 2013 budget deficit of $977 billion.

Indeed, Obama’s naked appeal to class envy ignores any number of facts about our tax system. His mantra about “fairness” ignores just how progressive tax rates already are. According to the Congressional Budget Office, the top 20% of income earners make 50% of the nation’s income but pay nearly 70% of all federal taxes, including payroll taxes. Everybody else earns 50% of income, but pay 30% of taxes. This is why the U.S. tax system is the most progressive of the world’s industrialized nations. If this system is unfair, it’s because nearly half of taxpayers pay no federal income tax. The “rich” are already paying more than their “fair share.”

And let’s not forget what’s obscured by Obama’s class-warfare rhetoric: the simple fact that the economic disaster waiting down the road is not the lack of revenue, but the explosion of spending on entitlements. According to the Heritage Foundation, by 2050 spending on Social Security, Medicaid, Medicare, and Obamacare will reach 19% of GDP, an amount that would devour all federal tax revenue at current rates. Given the popularity of Obama’s call to raise taxes on the “rich,” however, these fact-deficient appeals suggest that many voters either don’t understand those facts or don’t care, as long as their own interests are served.

Since Obama has worsened our economic troubles by increasing both budget deficits and entitlement spending––under his watch, the number of Americans living in households receiving government aid has jumped to 50%–– his only reelection strategy is to ignore economic fact. Instead, he must play on the irrational emotions of class envy, and make veiled promises to give even more money to the “takers” by filching it from the “makers.” Such behavior validates the criticisms of democracy from antiquity to the American founders. They had the example of ancient Athens, where by the mid-4thcentury B.C. every citizen was receiving state money almost every day of the year, and state funds were directed toward “public festivals and sacrifices,” as the historian Theopompus said, instead of national defense. How similar to our country today, where defense spending is facing a $1 trillion reduction over the next decade, even as Obamacare will cost $2.6 trillion, without any assurance that it will reduce costs or improve health care.

So are we Americans the “mob” or “dunces and weaklings” of democracy’s critics? Some data seem to suggest at least many of us are. By all historical indicators, given the sorry state of the economy Obama should be heading for McGovern-like disaster, losing to Romney in November by 5%. Yet polls show Obama virtually even with Romney, and his “likability” numbers are 20 points higher than Romney’s. Could it be that, like the Athenian Assembly in Thucydides, nearly half of our citizens––those millions benefitting from federal largesse at some level––are motivated by their own short-term self-interests no matter how damaging to our national future, and manipulated by appeals to irrational class hatred, class-envy, and unworkable utopian visions of cost-free equality and affluence?

We’ll see in November. Meanwhile there are other signs that enough Americans are not “dunces and weaklings.” The continuing influence of the Tea Party, recently evident in the surprise nomination of Ted Cruz to run for the Senate in Texas, suggests that this truly populist movement for fiscal sanity and traditional virtues will be as effective in November as it was in the 2010 midterm elections. The mass demonstrations in support of Chick-fil-A executive Dan Cathy’s First Amendment rights are another sign that a critical mass of Americans are sick of the totalitarian arrogance of progressives and eager to fire the Progressive-in-Chief. Perhaps these are portents of a renewed vigor and virtue among the American people that will prove democracy’s critics wrong.

It’s been quite some time since we checked in with my favorite media/entertainment critic, Robert Bianco @ USA Today

NBC’S prime time Summer Olympics (8ET/PT) program begins its second week tonight, as the focus begins to shift to track and field coverage.

But don’t panic, gymnastics and diving fans. There are still a few events left for NBC to add into the taped mix.

• A&E has a four-episode run of its surprisingly successful big-sky-cop series Longmire (8 ET/PT).

It’s not a bad series, but you can’t help feeling you’re watching a lower-budger, lesser-cast version of a CBS procedural.

• CBS’ Two Broke Girls (8:30 ET/PT) repeats the two episodes that introduced Jennifer Coolidge’s Sophie to the show.

She doesn’t quite make up for the general weakness of the supporting cast, but she does help. And if you don’t want to watch the Olympics, the show is certainly a huge improvement over its competitors on ABC and FOX.

• You might not know it, but the movie The Green Lantern (HBO, 9 ET/PT) has a significant TV connection.

It was written by Political Animals‘ Greg Berlanti, who has the superhero series Arrow coming this fall on CW.

And it’s one of Sheldon’s favorite targets of derision onThe Big Bang Theory.
